Split pea soup "Bessara"

Ingredients:


500g dried split peas

8 cups of water

4 cloves of garlic, crushed

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

1teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon cumin


Instructions:


1-In a large pot, cook the garlic in olive oil over medium-low heat until lightly browned.


2-Pour in water and all the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, and simmer for about 55 minutes, until the peas are tender. Stir occasionally while cooking to prevent the peas from sticking to the bottom of the pot.


3-When the peas are tender, Use a food processor or blender to puree the soup. Stir in additional water to reach desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning.


4-To garnish, add a drizzle of olive oil, some cumin. Serve with a slice of bread or a seafood side dish
